(Sumayyah's Qur'an Tree)
Assalamu Alaikum
I had decided to re-memorize some surahs in a different rhythm by choosing another Shaykh from the Islamway.com Website. I wanted to do this in the hopes of increasing my Khushoo (concentration) during Prayer. So anyways, as i was listening to the various shaykhs, i got to one that was a shaykh reciting a ayah and then a bunch of kids repeating after him.
I called my 4 1/2 yr old quick to listen and she was so excited about it. When that surah finished she wanted to listen to another, and another, and another. I was like, whoaa... this would be a great tool to teach her Qur'an. You can download the Surahs and listen to them in the car or in the living room, playroom, etc. So my husband burned them onto a CD and every night or so and sometimes during the day, she will turn it on by herself and listen alhamdulillah. She is learning quick mashaAllah and even Ibrahim is learning a few.

Islamway: Teaching Qur'an For Children
Listening to the CD, making a motivational Qur'an Tree, and her father's patient repetition, efforts, and ocassional tafseer, have helped her memorize Qur'an, alhamdulillah.
For the Qur'an tree:
1) I took a white poster board, not the big size- the medium size, and any picture of a tree and drew it on with a pencil (just the trunk and branches). Then i outlined it with black marker and filled it in with brown.
2) Fold green construction paper in half and in half again and trace a leaf shape onto the top. Then cut out the shape from the folded paper and get 4 at a time.
3) Every time the child memorizes a surah, write her name and the surah name on the leaf. Then stick it onto the tree with putty.
But i see that Sumayyah's tree is almost full, so i should have gone with a smaller leaf size - so if you have a Kindergartener or fast learner use a smaller leaf size. Or use a large poster. I couldn't find a smaller leaf template online so you'll just have to draw it yourself - just fold the construction paper into a smaller size, then eyeball it.
